i. Cooler (not a party cooler please) cup and spoon. Fork is not allowed
j. Ladies could add any other few conveniences. I believe you understand me...
k. Money! Money! Money! Hold good cash depending on how you spend...

GO EARLY!
Even if the camp is on your street, go early. If you are posted to a far state, go the day before the camp opens. They will allow you in. Going late will make you go through registration stress!!!

SCREENING
It starts at the gate. They dont want u to bring in prohibited items like iron, knive, heater, fork etc.

REGISTRATION
The first one is for hostel/ bedspace. Then the paper registrations proper. Make everything ready. Look out for information pasted on walls. Follow instructions strictly...

YOUR KITS
During the registration, you will get your kits - shirts, shorts, etc. Use the marker to write your State Code Number on them. You will be given a meal ticket. Misplace it and forget about NYSC food...

DURATION
You will be in the camp for 20 full days. The 21st day is the day you will leave camp...

THERE YOU GO!
Immediately you have your kits, only your T-shirt and shorts with the tennis shoe are allowed on you. No room for casual wears. Parade/ marching training starts immediately. The soldiers will not give you breathing space at all. You will have the first one that same Day One...

YOUR MORNINGS
A small trumpet wakes you at 4:00am. Everybody gathers at the Parade Ground at 5:00am. You have your praise, worship and prayer the Christian and Muslim ways. Till the day breaks finally, breakfast follows!
After eating, you will be called out again for the series of programmes lined up for you. Then you have your lunch. Rest a little and you are out again for evening parade. Then later your dinner. This will repeat itself everyday perhaps except on Sunday...

SOLDIERS
Hmmm, Obey them pls. They can punish you. No walking, its all jogging when they call u. Dont prostrate or kneel down greeting a soldier. Do it the soldier way. They could be friendly anyway. Be wise!!!

ALLOWEE
Your first allowance will be given to you in the camp cash. All other ones will be through the bank. You will get Bicycle Allowance.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Photographers are ready to snap you every minute. Manage your cash...

NOW, YOU ARE ABOUT GOING OUT OF THE CAMP YOUR POSTING
You will be posted from the camp to where you will work. The place you work in is called your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). Hear this: most Corpers, I mean about 90% of the Corpers will be posted to schools (especially primary and secondary schools). Only VERY FEW will be posted to the universities, polytechnics, colleges, ministries and parastatals.
Please! Don't lobby for your posting. Don't pay ANYBODY for assistance. Pray rather than pay... Receive the shocking or expected posting as you receive your letters with joy. It's a clarion call to service; that's what we call it....

GOING OUT: TRANSPORTATION
When you get your Posting Letter, the first place to go to is your PPA.
Please, when you leave the camp, 'home-sweet-home' will be on your mind, having been used up in the camp, but please, don't go home straight. Please!
Very few of your employers (i.e. PPAs) will send down vehicles to convey you from the camp to their work places... Commercial transporters will likely be available at the gate too...

ACCOMMODATION
You don't know anybody in Gusau, Misau, Awka, Jalingo or Ekiti! Where will you sleep on the first day? The Muslim Corpers' Association of Nigeria (MCAN) and Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship(NCCF) will give you a TEMPORARY accommodation pending the time you will HAVE TO GET YOURS. You could be lucky if your employer gives you a room... Many of them don't give Corpers accommodation anyway. So be prepared to rent one at your cost. Your first 'allowee' which you received in the camp is already going down!!!

REGISTRATIONS
This is why you don't have to go home straight. Your registration at the NYSC Office in the Local Govt you will be posted to, is important. Failure to complete it before going home is the beginning of a Corper's cup of tea. You may begin to have problems with your subsequent monthly allowances. Do all registrations first. Then you can take permission to go home...

LIFE INSIDE NYSC CAMP.

I'm writing this to educate every prospective corps member. This are some of the experiences u may have inside the orientation camp old take 📝.

1. Charging phones: Corps members are not allowed to charge phones in the hostels or in any nysc building... Do not even think of breaking this rule because there is no socket or other provision for charging. Corps members pay #50 to charge phones or torchlight to those doing it as business at mami market. Some of the shops at mami market are owned by nysc officials. There may be light in the hostels but whether light or no light you must pay to charge your phones, period!!! That is Nigeria for you. Lol!
.
2. Light out hour: Once it is 10:00pm, Corps Members are expected to be on their bed bug sleeping mattresses. At this time, the only noise expected from you is ‘snoring’. All light must be off, no call, no chat, nothing nothing except snoring, until 4.00am in the morning when soldiers will come and pursue corpers to the military fortified pared ground. Do not violate any rule because soldiers won't take it easy with you.
.
3. Sex and romance: Maybe you have heard or misinformed that camp is an opportunity for sexual activities. Some bad guys have bought some condoms already, waiting for the time to click. Unfortunately, there is no room for sexual intercourse in nysc camp. Bad market, I guessed!.. lol!. You better throw those condoms away because there is no room for that 'thing'.
Females hostels and male hostels are far apart with Soldiers patrolling day and night. Hostels are like a big hall, where everybody is your roommate. A corps member may have approximately 400 people as roommates.

Remember soldiers are everywhere watching you, and they are trained to catch sex offenders, if they catch you crawling around opposite sex hostel, brother or sister your name will be sorry, because they will surely decamp you (meaning no more NYSC for you). So, my advice  for you is to comport urself during this 21days in camp.
....
4. Falling in love: NYSC camp is not an ideal place for love, courtship or meeting one's life partner. In camp some ladies are too cheap to get, but are temptations as well. Some of them have very rough background, and you won't know. I advise you to forget about girls and focus on your mission to nysc camp...
.
In camp bad girls always chop 'mumu' guys. You think she is in love with you, after 21 days in camp, Na that time u go know.
.
5. NYSC food: Even though the food is always like poison, eat it if you can. But some people are too funny shaa…! In camp you will see some guys and gals ‘forming’ too big to eat NYSC food. They buy food at Mami market. After one week in camp, you will be surprise to see them fighting in the queue to collect NYSC food. Lolz! O boy money don finish!!
.
6. Fainting: It is very common to see Corpers fainting in nysc pared ground. Do not be surprise when you faint or see someone beside you faint. Huge guys with big muscles do faints as well. So it is not a matter of,, how big I am (NYSC camp no be moi moi).
.
7. You must wake up every morning, around 4:30am for morning drills, till 8:00am when you will be released to take your breakfast, after that another pared or boring SAES lecture. when you come back from the lecture, another drill. No time to rest. Just take a look at yourself, you think say there is rest for NYSC camp? Lol!
.
8. Snoring: This one is the most annoying thing you will ever meet in camp. Imagine having about 400 people as roommates! That would be snoring competition. As you battle snoring, there are also people that scream in the middle of night while sleeping. O boy! There is nothing you will not see.
After all the drills and stress soldiers caused you , your fellow PCMs will still not allow you to sleep at night...

Have you ever slept in a small hall containing about 400 people and at night not less than 150 people will be snoring and another 50 screaming in the middle of night.
Oh! oh! you thought you would have your own room? Lol! Hahaha! The hostel is like a hall, many people will be there.

9.. Stand Still: you must stand still for Nigeria to sleep at 6:00pm and at 6:00 am you must stand still for Nigeria to wake. This you must do when you hear the beagle’s sound, you must remain stand still until the sound stop. Make sure you don't violet that rule.
.
10. Please, come with enough money. #15,000 is ok, but you will have to be combining NYSC food and mami food OR come with #40,000 if you have no intention to eat NYSC poisoned food.. LOL!

GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU
See u in camp.

NYSC Camp Registration Requirements

Part 1
1. CALL UP LETTER: This is a vital part of camp registration and the only evidence that you are a prospective corps member
(colloq. Corper, or Otondo) and you are
not impersonating anyone. This will be
taken from and not returned to you. So if at all you even forget you luggage never forget this.

Tip: Since many will choose the N4,000
option to print online, do try to use a café with laser jet printers and not DeskJet.

Why? Documents printed with DeskJets are more susceptible to water/moisture damage. Just to be on a safer side and you should do this with any document you intend to keep for a very long time. If you can’t find a LaserJet, use anyone.

Tip: DO NOT LAMINATE IT! And keep it like its your life. I know someone who was sent back because she forgot hers. Also someone who had to beg and beg before his letter was collected because he laminated his own copy. So please avoid all these stress and make enough copies of this letter.

Tip: Remember you can REPRINT your
Call-Up letter online if subscribed
(N4,000) to that option.

2. Registration Documents: If you’re a
foreign graduate, take along the original credentials you uploaded (to the NYSC Portal) for physical verification / evaluation. >> The List here

3. Green Card: It contains your bio-data. Print and bring along your signed copy.

4. Final Year Student IDENTITY CARD

5. Notification/STATEMENT OF RESULT from School.

6. PHOTOCOPIES OF YOUR DOCUMENTS:
Now make about 10 copies of every
document required. There would be
photocopiers in camp at mammy market but trust me, it is double the price and it saves time.

7. PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPHS: This is very important. Take as many as you can, about 20 in red backgrounds. You would need them for different kinds of registration. e.g, skill acquisition groups, religious groups, sports, redeployment, bank account opening e.t.c

8. My CLEAR BAG: You’ll need to put the aforementioned in a portable envelope/ bag that can withstand some amount of wear/tear. Hence, My Clear Bag.

Tip: The forms that will be handed to you are very easy to fill. Attach your passport where necessary and fill them correctly. After your registration, you will be issued
with your State Code Number. This will be like your PIN throughout your Service Year.

PART 2:
9.  CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: For Doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses & Lab Scientists, take along your proof of certification. Graduates of Medicine and Pharmacy are expected to have their Certificates of Registration with Nigerian Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (NMDCN) and
Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN)
respectively.

10. STATIONERY: PEN, PAPER, GUM. This saves time and lots of unnecessary begging.

Tip: Some camps do seize staplers at the gate during check-in. But do not forget to include pins in your stapler if you still decide to take it along.
You will be given a meal ticket that gives you access to the Camp kitchen for the 21 days. Lose it and you have to feed yourself. Even if you do not intend to use it, you will come across someone who would appreciate the kind gesture.

Tip: After getting your NYSC State Code Number (which you have to wear around your neck all through camp with your ID card), you can proceed to claim your NYSC Kit and Mattress after which you can proceed to get a Room. After you have gotten your kit and secured a place in the hostels, you can settle down and you are good to go to start the Military parades.
Now, Your NYSC kit should contain 1
NYSC Crested Vest, A pair of Khaki
Trousers, Cap and Jacket, 2 White T-
shirts, 2 Pairs of Knickers, 2 pairs of
green-stripped Stockings, A Pair of
Orange Jungle Boots and One Pair of
White Converse. A “Belt” is also included.

PART 3:
DAILY NEEDS:
11. ROUND-NECKED WHITE T-SHIRTS: This is an essential outfit in camp in fact in most camps this is the only allowed cloth to be worn throughout your 3 weeks. Even to church, you might not be allowed to wear colored cloths. You would be given 2 pairs of white t-shirts at
camp to just fulfill all righteousness
which surely would never be your size
especially our very slim and small otondo in size . So you can bring extra pairs (6).

Why? Because you probably wont have
time to wash during the week after being stressed out from the parades and Man- O-War drills.

Tip: Do not carry more than 2 pairs of
colored clothes because you wont need
them.

12. WHITE SHORTS: I beg you please do bring yours. you would also be given 2 pairs of shorts which are really poor in material. They tear easily and it can be annoying. So my dear Otondos bring like 4 pairs of shorts. Trust me also you wont like to wash everyday, so bring enough to last you like 3 days so that you wont be stranded.

13. PLAIN WHITE SNEAKERS/TENNIS
SHOES: This is a very important outfit. you would also be given an ugly pair of low quality white tennis shoes
customized for NYSC. It’s either you are not given your size although you can find someone with your size and swap. But after the first wash it starts tearing. So just buy yours (white). They also sell this
in camp, so in case you are not able to
get you could buy in camp just carry
extra cash for that because the price
would be higher – as with everything in Mammy – because they know you haveno choice than to buy. Now, If you
happen to camp during the rainy season (Batch ‘B’ & ‘C’), get white rubber sneakers/boots especially if you’re posted to the Southern part of the country (esp. the South South. Read, Bayelsa).

The parade fields/mammy market will be messed up after the rains. You will get this in camp. Rubber boots in action. Kaiama Camp, Bayelsa. Batch ‘B’ 2013

14. WHITE SOCKS: Just get extra pairs.

15. PADLOCKS: [BRING or BUY from
Mammy] Please lock your boxes and
bags to avoid regrets and tears. I know someone who lost more than 5 items including his two phones – like he’s the only one in camp.

16. WAIST POUCH: /Fanny pack/Bum bag (or for the more fashion-conscious, a cross-body purse). The bum bags are more popular because they won’t bang against you when you’re active and your hands are free to do whatever. You need it to carry your money, phone, small valuables, pens, etc around with you at all
times. You should sleep with it too.

17. MOSQUITO TREATED NET: You would do not want to fall sick in camp from malaria and miss out on the fun. Just bring yours. Also bring ropes you would use to hang it. The nets usually have these. I also used mine as a room to protect my box and properties from thieves and also from some insects and ants.

18. BASIC DRUGS: Like paracetamol,
medicine for your allergies, menstrual
pain relief drug, nausea relief drugs,
antibiotics e.t.c. The camp clinic is
sometimes inadequately s tocked with
drugs so help yourself. To all my friends let get set for this because it is our turn

RE: NYSC MEMBER’S FINGER CUT OFF BY VILLAGERS IN KATSINA

The attention of the management of NYSC Katsina State, has been drawn to the publication in the Punch Newspaper of Tuesday, 4th April, 2017 captioned “NYSC Member’s finger cut off by villagers in Katsina”.
We wish to state categorically that no corps member’s finger was cut as reported in the story, nor a male corps member living with the purported female corps member.
The true story is that there was an attack in the early hours of Monday, 3rd April, 2017 by some hoodlums in a rented compound located at  Sabuwar Unguwa, Kofar Kaura, Katsina Local Government Area, where corps members and other tenants occupy. Four corps members live in the compound, and none of them was hurt or injured in the attack.
Their names are;
1. Joseph Egbezemori, KT/16B/5486, serving with Gaskya Modern School, Katsina,
2.  Omede Joy Ojomo, KT/16B/6066 GDSS Kofar Yandaka,
3.  Atta Vincent, KT/16A/3110, GDSS Kofar Yandaka and,
4. Ujonu Ansong, KT/16B/6870, GDSS Kofar Yandaka.

At 5:30am same day, the State Coordinator, NYSC Katsina, Mr. Okpo John A on receiving the information of the attack in the compound housing some corps members moved with the Assistant Director (Information) Emeka Ugwu, Alhaji Mohammed Mustapha Zonal Inspector, NYSC Katsina Zone and Mr Davou Gado, Principal Inspector, NYSC Katsina to find out if the corps members were affected by the incident. He immediately ordered the evacuation of the corps members from the compound. He further directed the police to make a thorough investigation of the incident.

The two victims of the incident:
• Dorcas Negede is an NCE holder and staff of Saldefi International School, Katsina while,
• Benjamin M. is a student at Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsinma.
• Both Dorcas and Benjamin are not corps members.
Dorcas’s thumb was dismembered while Benjamin sustained matchet cuts on the head.

The writer of the Facebook story, one Ikenna Maduabuchi, KT/16A/2525 is currently doing his  primary assignment with  Bank of Industry, Dutsinma. He does not therefore reside in the compound where the incident occurred neither was he at the scene of the incident. In an interview, Ikenna claimed the story was posted to him by one Samuel Adoniyi (Sammy Elijah), KT/I6B/5703. Samuel’s place of primary assignment is Katsina Television, Katsina.
The Punch Newspaper reporter on his part lifted the Facebook posting without reaching out to either the State Coordinator of NYSC Katsina, Mr. Okpo John A. or Mr.Emeka Ugwu, Assistant Director, Information, to cross check his facts. The state coordinator is media friendly and could have clarified the issue. The clarification could have averted   the embarrassment the publication has caused.
We wish to place on record that Katsina state is one of the most peaceful states in the country and the government and people of Katsina State are highly accommodating and friendly. Therefore, we cannot understand what Ikenna stands to gain by raising false alarm.
