Forget about Apple's iPhone 7 or Samsung's Galaxy S8, here is Xiaomi's Mi 6, powerful flagship with a low-cost price.
Seven years in the making. That's what Xiaomi says and you can feel the pride of a job well done. Is it arrogance? Maybe. And it may be surprising but not completely unfounded. A five-inch screen in a hot, curved metal-and-glass body. A dual camera with 2x optical zoom. A Snapdragon 835. The Xiaomi Mi 6 has many virtues and well... modesty isn't one of them.
The 6th generation comes packed with premium features, as if Xiaomi is trying to pick a fight with every contemporary flagship. The latest Snapdragon 835 chipset may as well have been the only option - no other would've suited their best phone yet.
To be fair, Xiaomi did well to refine the series design and even added splash resistance. The dual 12MP camera with a telephoto lens and portrait photography is Xiaomi's take on what seems to be the latest fad in phones. All of these - at the expense of an audio jack. If Apple can get away with it... What did we say about modesty?
Now, being a mix of every new trending feature around the Xiaomi Mi 6 is surely going to step on a lot of flagship toes. And it sure looks like an offer you can't refuse. Even the premium model is half the price of a name brand counterpart - we're talking ceramic finish and 18-karat gold-plated camera rims.
There are far too many similarities with a certain Cupertino smartphone though - the lack of an audio jack, the added water-resistance, the telephoto camera for portrait photography, and the newly introduced stereo speakers. It's not that we don't welcome those upgrades, but it looks like the new Mi is for the first time trying too hard to be cool instead of simply playing to its own strengths - of which it obviously has enough.
Xiaomi Mi 6 key features:
1. Body: 3D glass body with stainless steel frame; curved all around, splash resistant
2. Screen: 5.15" IPS LCD display, 1080p resolution, HDR video support
3. OS: Android OS v7.1.1 Nougat with MIUI 8.2
4. Chipset: Snapdragon 835 chipset: octa-core Kryo 280 CPU (4x2.46GHz +4x1.9GHz); Adreno 540 GPU; 6GB of RAM
5. Camera: Dual 12MP Sony IMX386 camera; wide-angle F/1.8 + telephoto F/2.6, live bokeh effects, 4-axis optical image stabilization, dual-LED flash, phase detection auto focus, 2160p@30fps video;
6. Selfie: 8MP front-facing camera with 1080p@30fps video
7. Storage: 64GB/128GB of built-in storage
8. SIM: Dual-SIM (nano-SIM)
9. Connectivity: 1Gbps LTE; Dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac; GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, Bluetooth v5.0; NFC, USB-C port, IR blaster
10. Audio: Active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic; 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Res audio
11. Battery: 3,230mAh non-removable battery, QuickCharge 3.0 support
12. Misc: Fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers
Main shortcomings:
1. 1080p screen resolution falls short of flagship standards (though, not an issue)
2. No 3.5mm audio jack (but an adapter is provided)
3. Not fully water-resistant
4. No microSD slot
5. Limited market availability, markup on gray import prices takes away its competitive edge
The Mi 6 lost the audio jack in favor of more battery juice, which should have made it easier for Xiaomi to focus on waterproofing. Recent teardowns have revealed that Xiaomi attempted to secure the Mi 6 against water, yet the USB port omits any kind of seals and is left completely unprotected. The company just did not go the extra mile, for some reason. IP68 certification could have made up for the lack of the fan-favorite audio jack.
So, the Mi 6. The low-cost flagship redefined. Xiaomi's most powerful smartphone and an ambitious cameraphone. It looks like an exciting journey ahead. Anyway, let's see how good it is at what it does.

WHAT IS WANNACRY RANSOMEWARE?
For those unaware, Ransomware is a computer virus that usually spreads via spam emails and malicious download links; specially designed to lock up the files on a computer, until the victim pays the ransom demand, usually $300-$500 in Bitcoins.
But what makes WannaCry so unique and nasty is its ability to self-spread without even need to click any link or a file.
The WannaCry ransomware, also known as Wanna Decryptor, leverages a Windows SMB exploit, dubbed EternalBlue, that allows a remote hacker to hijack computers running on unpatched Microsoft Windows operating system.
Once infected, WannaCry also scans for other unpatched PCs connected to the same local network, as well as scans random hosts on the wider Internet, to spread itself quickly.
WHAT HAS HAPPENED SO FAR:
Day 1: OutCry — WannaCry targeted over 90,000 computers in 99 countries.
Day 2: The Patch Day — A security researcher successfully found a way to slow down the infection rate, and meanwhile, Microsoft releases emergency patch updates for unsupported versions of Windows.
Day 3: New Variants Arrives — Just yesterday, some new variants of WannaCry, with and without a kill-switch, were detected in the wild would be difficult to stop for at least next few weeks.
HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM WANNACRY RANSOMWARE?
Here are some simple tips you should always follow because most computer viruses make their ways into your systems due to lack of simple security practices:
1. Always Install Security Updates: If you are using any version of Windows, except Windows 10, with SMB protocol enabled, make sure your computer should always receive updates automatically from the Microsoft, and it’s up-to-date always.
2. Patch SMB Vulnerability: Since WannaCry has been exploiting a critical SMB remote code execution vulnerability(CVE-2017-0148) for which Microsoft has already released a patch (MS17-010) in the month of March, you are advised to ensure your system has installed those patches.
Moreover, Microsoft has been very generous to its users in this difficult time that the company has even released the SMB patches for its unsupported versions of Windows as well, including Windows XP, Vista, 8, Server 2003 and 2008.
Note: If you are using Windows 10 Creators Update (1703), you are not vulnerable to SMB vulnerability.
3. Disable SMB: Even if you have installed the patches, you are advised to disable Server Message Block version 1 (SMBv1) protocol, which is enabled by default on Windows, to prevent against WannaCry ransomware attacks.
Here's the list of simple steps you can follow to disable SMBv1:
1.Go to Windows' Control Panel and open 'Programs.'
2.Open 'Features' under Programs and click 'Turn Windows Features on and off.'
3.Now, scroll down to find 'SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support' and uncheck it.
4.Then click OK, close the control Panel and restart the computer.
4. Enable Firewall & Block SMB Ports Always keep your firewall enabled, and if you need to keep SMBv1 enabled, then just modify your firewall configurations to block access to SMB ports over the Internet. The protocol operates on TCP ports 137, 139, and 445, and over UDP ports 137 and 138.
5. Use an Antivirus Program An evergreen solution to prevent against most threats is to use a good antivirus software from a reputable vendor and always keep it up-to-date. Almost all antivirus vendors have already added detection capability to block WannaCry, as well as to prevent the secret installations from malicious applications in the background.
6. Be Suspicious of Emails, Websites, Apps Unlike WannaCry, most ransomware spread through phishing emails, malicious adverts on websites, and third-party apps and programs.
So, you should always exercise caution when opening uninvited documents sent over an email and clicking on links inside those documents unless verifying the source to safeguard against such ransomware infection.
Also, never download any app from third-party sources, and read reviews even before installing apps from official stores.
7. Regular Backup your Files:To always have a tight grip on all your important documents and files, keep a good backup routine in place that makes their copies to an external storage device which is not always connected to your computer.
That way, if any ransomware infects you, it can not encrypt your backups.
8. Keep Your Knowledge Up-to-Date: There's not a single day that goes without any report on cyber attacks and vulnerabilities in popular software and services, such as Android, iOS, Windows, Linux and Mac Computers as well.
So, it’s high time for users of any domain to follow day-to-day happening of the cyber world, which would not only help them to keep their knowledge up-to-date, but also prevent against even sophisticated cyber attacks.
WHAT TO DO IF WANNACRY INFECTS YOU?
Well, nothing.
If WannaCry ransomware has infected you, you can’t decrypt your files until you pay a ransom money to the hackers and get a secret key to unlock your file.
Never Pay the Ransom: It’s up to the affected organizations and individuals to decide whether or not to pay the ransom, depending upon the importance of their files locked by the ransomware.
But before making any final decision, just keep in mind: there's no guarantee that even after paying the ransom, you would regain control of your files.
Moreover, paying ransom also encourages cyber criminals to come up with similar threats and extort money from the larger audience.
So, sure shot advice to all users is — Don't Pay the Ransom.

j. Ladies could add any other few conveniences. I believe you understand me...
k. Money! Money! Money! Hold good cash depending on how you spend...
GO EARLY!
Even if the camp is on your street, go early. If you are posted to a far state, go the day before the camp opens. They will allow you in. Going late will make you go through registration stress!!!
SCREENING
It starts at the gate. They dont want u to bring in prohibited items like iron, knive, heater, fork etc.
REGISTRATION
The first one is for hostel/ bedspace. Then the paper registrations proper. Make everything ready. Look out for information pasted on walls. Follow instructions strictly...
YOUR KITS
During the registration, you will get your kits - shirts, shorts, etc. Use the marker to write your State Code Number on them. You will be given a meal ticket. Misplace it and forget about NYSC food...
DURATION
You will be in the camp for 20 full days. The 21st day is the day you will leave camp...
THERE YOU GO!
Immediately you have your kits, only your T-shirt and shorts with the tennis shoe are allowed on you. No room for casual wears. Parade/ marching training starts immediately. The soldiers will not give you breathing space at all. You will have the first one that same Day One...

A small trumpet wakes you at 4:00am. Everybody gathers at the Parade Ground at 5:00am. You have your praise, worship and prayer the Christian and Muslim ways. Till the day breaks finally, breakfast follows!
After eating, you will be called out again for the series of programmes lined up for you. Then you have your lunch. Rest a little and you are out again for evening parade. Then later your dinner. This will repeat itself everyday perhaps except on Sunday...

PHOTOGRAPHY
Photographers are ready to snap you every minute. Manage your cash...
NOW, YOU ARE ABOUT GOING OUT OF THE CAMP YOUR POSTING
You will be posted from the camp to where you will work. The place you work in is called your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). Hear this: most Corpers, I mean about 90% of the Corpers will be posted to schools (especially primary and secondary schools). Only VERY FEW will be posted to the universities, polytechnics, colleges, ministries and parastatals.
Please! Don't lobby for your posting. Don't pay ANYBODY for assistance. Pray rather than pay... Receive the shocking or expected posting as you receive your letters with joy. It's a clarion call to service; that's what we call it....
GOING OUT: TRANSPORTATION
When you get your Posting Letter, the first place to go to is your PPA.
Please, when you leave the camp, 'home-sweet-home' will be on your mind, having been used up in the camp, but please, don't go home straight. Please!
Very few of your employers (i.e. PPAs) will send down vehicles to convey you from the camp to their work places... Commercial transporters will likely be available at the gate too...
ACCOMMODATION
You don't know anybody in Gusau, Misau, Awka, Jalingo or Ekiti! Where will you sleep on the first day? The Muslim Corpers' Association of Nigeria (MCAN) and Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship(NCCF) will give you a TEMPORARY accommodation pending the time you will HAVE TO GET YOURS. You could be lucky if your employer gives you a room... Many of them don't give Corpers accommodation anyway. So be prepared to rent one at your cost. Your first 'allowee' which you received in the camp is already going down!!!
REGISTRATIONS
This is why you don't have to go home straight. Your registration at the NYSC Office in the Local Govt you will be posted to, is important. Failure to complete it before going home is the beginning of a Corper's cup of tea. You may begin to have problems with your subsequent monthly allowances. Do all registrations first. Then you can take permission to go home...
Corpers weeee 👌
I'm writing this to educate every prospective corps member. This are some of the experiences u may have inside the orientation camp old take 📝.
1. Charging phones: Corps members are not allowed to charge phones in the hostels or in any nysc building... Do not even think of breaking this rule because there is no socket or other provision for charging. Corps members pay #50 to charge phones or torchlight to those doing it as business at mami market. Some of the shops at mami market are owned by nysc officials. There may be light in the hostels but whether light or no light you must pay to charge your phones, period!!! That is Nigeria for you. Lol!
.
2. Light out hour: Once it is 10:00pm, Corps Members are expected to be on their bed bug sleeping mattresses. At this time, the only noise expected from you is ‘snoring’. All light must be off, no call, no chat, nothing nothing except snoring, until 4.00am in the morning when soldiers will come and pursue corpers to the military fortified pared ground. Do not violate any rule because soldiers won't take it easy with you.
.
3. Sex and romance: Maybe you have heard or misinformed that camp is an opportunity for sexual activities. Some bad guys have bought some condoms already, waiting for the time to click. Unfortunately, there is no room for sexual intercourse in nysc camp. Bad market, I guessed!.. lol!. You better throw those condoms away because there is no room for that 'thing'.
Females hostels and male hostels are far apart with Soldiers patrolling day and night. Hostels are like a big hall, where everybody is your roommate. A corps member may have approximately 400 people as roommates.
Remember soldiers are everywhere watching you, and they are trained to catch sex offenders, if they catch you crawling around opposite sex hostel, brother or sister your name will be sorry, because they will surely decamp you (meaning no more NYSC for you). So, my advice for you is to comport urself during this 21days in camp.
....
4. Falling in love: NYSC camp is not an ideal place for love, courtship or meeting one's life partner. In camp some ladies are too cheap to get, but are temptations as well. Some of them have very rough background, and you won't know. I advise you to forget about girls and focus on your mission to nysc camp...
.
In camp bad girls always chop 'mumu' guys. You think she is in love with you, after 21 days in camp, Na that time u go know.
.
5. NYSC food: Even though the food is always like poison, eat it if you can. But some people are too funny shaa…! In camp you will see some guys and gals ‘forming’ too big to eat NYSC food. They buy food at Mami market. After one week in camp, you will be surprise to see them fighting in the queue to collect NYSC food. Lolz! O boy money don finish!!
.
6. Fainting: It is very common to see Corpers fainting in nysc pared ground. Do not be surprise when you faint or see someone beside you faint. Huge guys with big muscles do faints as well. So it is not a matter of,, how big I am (NYSC camp no be moi moi).
.
7. You must wake up every morning, around 4:30am for morning drills, till 8:00am when you will be released to take your breakfast, after that another pared or boring SAES lecture. when you come back from the lecture, another drill. No time to rest. Just take a look at yourself, you think say there is rest for NYSC camp? Lol!
.
8. Snoring: This one is the most annoying thing you will ever meet in camp. Imagine having about 400 people as roommates! That would be snoring competition. As you battle snoring, there are also people that scream in the middle of night while sleeping. O boy! There is nothing you will not see.
After all the drills and stress soldiers caused you , your fellow PCMs will still not allow you to sleep at night...
Have you ever slept in a small hall containing about 400 people and at night not less than 150 people will be snoring and another 50 screaming in the middle of night.
Oh! oh! you thought you would have your own room? Lol! Hahaha! The hostel is like a hall, many people will be there.
9.. Stand Still: you must stand still for Nigeria to sleep at 6:00pm and at 6:00 am you must stand still for Nigeria to wake. This you must do when you hear the beagle’s sound, you must remain stand still until the sound stop. Make sure you don't violet that rule.
.
10. Please, come with enough money. #15,000 is ok, but you will have to be combining NYSC food and mami food OR come with #40,000 if you have no intention to eat NYSC poisoned food.. LOL!
GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU
See u in camp.
